Frequently speaks of the nation of Israel and its ancestry – Commonly uses genealogies and lists of names and numbers of people

NOTE: While to be considered Jewish your mother must be Jewish, most of the genealogies are names of men.


Adam – Seth – Noah

Ham – Africa

Shem – Western Asia (Semites/Semitism)

Japheth – Europe


Adam – Seth – Noah – Shem – Abram/Abraham – Isaac – Jacob – 12/13 tribes

Interesting facts

Levites – the priestly line – the Levites were a tribe, but did not receive land (Num 1:47-49; Deut 10:9)

Judah – the royal line

Joseph received a double portion


Israel’s horizontal leadership

Leaders like Moses and Joshua

Judges (temporary military leaders) like Samson, Gideon & Deborah

Kings like Saul, David and Solomon

Israel’s vertical leadership

Priests represented the people to God

Prophets represented God to the people
