Lesson #5 in the series: The Bible You Can Trust

Text: Luke 3:6-16 & various passages

Theme: Helping your class to see how the Bible applies to them.

Why is this lesson important? We should read the Word of God every day asking, “How should this passage impact or change my life? What does this passage look like in my life?”

Someone has said, “To read without reflecting is like eating without digesting.”

A key example through preaching is found in Luke 3:6-16

Key passages to consider: Romans 15:1-4; 1 Cor 10:6, 11; Phil 4:9

Application of God’s Word is the responsibility of every believer-reader

Other key passages that refer to the application of God’s Word to our lives: James 1:21-27; Matt. 7:24-27; Rev 2:7; Heb 5:11-14

U Ask yourself this question when you finish reading your Bible, Did I apply this to my life answering the question “So what?” or “What does that mean to me?” Or “What does this look like in my life?”

Practical application:

Read in a way you can apply the passage (not speed reading)

Consider what the passage means

Meditate on how it would look if applied to your life

Hide God’s Word not only in your heart, but in your life

Ask the Lord to help you live what He has shown you
