THE DAY OF THE LORD

6/30/2024

Sermon 11: Living in Anticipation of the Coming of Christ

Text: 1 Thessalonians 5:1-5

Theme: What is the “Day of the Lord” and when will it happen?

When you read notice when the purpose of the writer changes

vv. 1-8 – conviction

vv. 9-12 – challenge

vv. 13-18 - comfort

In this current time period in Christianity people seem enamored with preaching on eschatology. Paul was writing, not just to talk about what they were interested in, but to meet a spiritual need in their lives

So this passage answers, “How do I know that I won’t have to go through the tribulation?”

PROOFS OF A PRE-TRIBULATION RAPTURE

1. The Church is mentioned repeatedly (19x) in Revelation 1-3 and is not mentioned once in Revelation 4-19

2. The rapture is an imminent event and its taking places starts the events of the tribulation (1 Thess 5:1-3)

? A person may be asked, “Are you looking forward to the ‘Day of the Lord’…”?

3. Believers are promised to be delivered before the wrath to come (1 Thess 1:9, 10; 5:4, 5)
